About BC Tots
BC Tots is a free guide for parents in British Columbia, from pregnancy until kindergarten (kids up to age 6).
It starts with child care, the question most young families face first: every licensed program in BC on one map, so you can see what's licensed and where. We're adding plain-language help on other early-years topics too, such as health, sleep, food and getting ready for school.
Where the data comes from
Every listing comes from the Province of British Columbia's Child Care Map Data, used under the Open Government Licence – British Columbia. We refresh it every week. When the Province lists a facility more than once, we show it once. Records the Province marks as incomplete are left out.
The map can also show free places for families: StrongStart BC early learning centres and public library branches. These come from the Province's StrongStart BC Centre Locations and BC Public Libraries – Branches and Locations data, used under the same licence and refreshed with the rest of the map.
The Province describes this as a list of ministry-funded licensed child care, so some licensed facilities may not appear. Vacancy information is self-reported by facilities and can be out of date, so always call to confirm.
Home-based care and privacy
Licensed Family child care runs out of the provider's own home. For these listings we don't publish the street address or the full postal code, and the map shows an approximate area instead of an exact point.
Inspections
Licensed child care in BC is inspected by the local health authority. Each facility page links to its health authority's inspection reports.
Help for parents
New to child care in BC, or wondering about costs and subsidies? Our parent guide explains the types of care, $10 a Day centres, fee reductions, the Affordable Child Care Benefit and how to check inspection reports.
Independence
This site is not part of the Province of BC, a health authority or any child care provider. A listing is not an endorsement.
